Gucci Apologizes for ‘Blackface’ Turtleneck

Gucci has apologized for marketing a sweater after people pointed out that its design appeared as if blackface. The top, which has today been pulled from the particular fashion house’s online plus physical stores, is a new black turtleneck which can be pulled up over the base half the face to expose oversize red lips. In a tweet sent overdue Tuesday, the company stated it “deeply apologizes for the offense caused by the wool balaclava jumper, ” and added: “We are fully committed to improving diversity throughout our organization and turning this incident into a powerful studying moment for the Gucci team and beyond. ” Film producer and media personality Tariq Nasheed mentioned the apology wasn’t very good enough, writing: “So Gucci puts out a jacket that looks like blackface... On Black History Calendar month... And then issues a great apology because they did not know that blackface photos are racist. ”
